It's not a requirement for all styles, it's just a module that can be enabled/disabled.
Unfortunately, your very requirement (that it be prominent) is the thing that drives people to not want it on their styles, and since it's their journal, it's hard to force the matter. And the userhead to profile shortcut will definitely still work for a user who wants it--but it means being logged in, which doesn't fit your requirement.
